Wearable technology powered by sweat

Scientists from Tokyo University of Science developed a way to power wearable electronic devices with sweat.

The biofuel cell array looks like a paper bandage worn on the arm or forearm. It generates electric power from the lactate in the wearer’s sweat.

If all goes well, bodily fluids could one day power not only our watches and biosensors, but all other wearable electronics and portable devices that we use every day, including our mobile phones.

How do you feel about your sweat becoming fuel? What devices do you imagine this could power? Please let us know in the comments below.
